System E is a substitute for the won-loss percentage that takes into account the strength of the opposition -- by using their E ratings. It is the unique set of ratings for which: E = Ave. Opponent E + Won-Loss Pct. - .500 subject to the condition: Ave. E for all teams = .500 Every NCAA and NAIA team and game is included in the compilation, as well as several unaffiliated teams and the games they played. System D is a similar substitute for the PF and PA statistics, defined by the conditions: D = (PF - PA)/Games Played + Ave. Opponent D Ave. D for all teams = Ave. point score for all games The average game score, as of November 14, is 24.56. System F is a refinement of System E to better account for which opposition was defeated and which lost to. It is the unique set of ratings for which: F = Ave. Opponent F + E - .500 where only those games are counted, in which the winner is rated no higher than .5 over the loser, subject to the condition: Ave. F for all teams = .500 Every NCAA and NAIA team and game is included in the compilation, as well as several unaffiliated teams and the games they played. The uniqueness of the ratings holds as long as they are compiled separately for each non-interlocking schedule group. In college football, there are two such groups: the New England Smalls, and everyone else. The Iowa IAC was a third group until the Division III playoffs starting on November 21. The average score for the New England Smalls is 22.95. Mark Hopkins
